Why I Pray the Rosary I pray the Rosary to place myself in God’s presence and order my mind to think about things that are everlasting. The Rosary is also known as the “little office” and is an alternative to daily recitation of the Psalms known as the Divine Office. When one prays the rosary, prayers are repeated as one mediates on mysteries in salvation history.
How to Pray the Rosary
- Begin with the Apostle’s Creed.
- Say the Our Father
- Say 3 Hail Mary’s and announce the mysteries to be recited, i.e. “Joyous”, “Luminous”, “Sorrowful” or “Glorious”
- Say the Glory Be
- Announce the first mystery and say one Our Father
- Say ten Hail Mary’s while thinking about the mystery being prayed. The Hail Mary prayers serve as a “timer” for the period of meditation and are not intended to be the focus of attention. Don’t panic if you get distracted, gently return to the prayer and keep going.
- Say the Glory Be
- Say the Fatima Prayer
- Repeat steps 5-8 for the second mystery
- Repeat steps 5-8 for the third mystery
